Gayle Romasanta
Executive Director

Gayle Romasanta is a writer, community organizer and artist whose work focuses on the Filipino American experience. As a community organizer, Gayle founded Kappa Psi Epsilon, a Filipino American cultural sorority, celebrating its 27th year, with chapters at University of California, Los Angeles, University of California, Davis, California State University, Long Beach, California State University, Sacramento, and San Francisco State University. She has extensive nonprofit experience, working over 10 years in education fund development and writing about California education policy. She is currently the executive director of the Filipino-American Development Foundation, supporting Filipino American organizations and programs throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, including the South of Market Pilipinas Cultural Heritage District.

She received a BA in Creative Writing from San Francisco State University and an MFA, Writing from California College of the Arts. Her work has appeared on television, radio, online, magazines, and books, such as the New York Times, Smithsonian Magazine, Harvard University’s Education Next Journal, KQED’s The Forum, ABS-CBN and more. Gayle is also the former artistic director of San Francisco’s Bindlestiff Studio, the only theater space in the U.S. devoted to Filipino American storytelling. She also co-wrote the book, Journey for Justice: The Life of Larry Itliong, with the late and great historian Dr. Dawn Mabalon. Currently, she is an artist-in-residence at Brava! For Women in the Arts, writing “Larry: The Musical” about the life of Larry Itliong, which recently received a National Endowment for the Arts grant award.

Bernadette Borja Sy
Co-Founder and Chief Finance Officer

Bern founded FADF in 1997 with her father, Dr. Mario Borja, and has worked in the SoMa for almost two decades. As CFO, she oversees the fiscal management of over a dozen programs primarily serving the Filipino community in San Francisco, and advocates for the overall needs of Filipino low-income seniors and families.  She has served on several nonprofit Boards including the Veterans Equity Center, Tenant and Owners Development Corporation, and Alexis Apartments of St. Patrick’s Parish.

Bryan Pangilinan
Director of Fund Development

Bryan Pangilinan has been rooted in the Filipino American and arts communities for nearly four decades and is honored to join the FADF team. He brings more than 25 years expertise in fund development with a focus on foundation, government, and corporate relations with proven success in securing major gifts that have supported community-based programs.

Prior to joining FADF, Bryan has served as Managing Director with Bindlestiff Studio, VP of Development, Foundation Giving at United Way of the Bay Area, Senior Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations at San Francisco State University, Director of Foundation Relations at Earthjustice, and most recently as Director of Institutional Giving at the San Francisco Symphony.

Bryan is trained in Filipino rondalla music by composer and ethnomusicologist Bayani Mendoza de Leon, and served as Music Director with LIKHA Pilipino Folk Ensemble performing in local, regional, national, and international tours. He has been featured in over twenty musical theater productions in the San Francisco Bay Area, most recently as Tatsuo Kimura in the Bay Area premiere of the musical “Allegiance.”

Bryan is Executive Producer and Composer of “Larry the Musical” about Filipino American labor leader Larry Itliong. He holds degrees in ethnic studies from the University of California, San Diego, and music from San Francisco State University.

Brianna Barrientos is a Filipino American community organizer based in Los Angeles County. She holds a BA in Community Studies with a focus on Economic Justice and Political Economy from the University of California, Santa Cruz. She graduated cum laude and was recognized with a Chancellor's Award for her capstone project, titled "The Perseverance of Filipino Labor: An Analysis of the Competing Forces Between Filipino Advocacy and San Francisco Racial Politics."

During her time at university, Brianna was an active member in Anakbayan Santa Cruz and also interned at SOMA Pilipinas - Filipino Cultural Heritage District. Her contributions involved supporting community growth, organizing cultural events, and advocating against displacement issues. Additionally, she was part of the Race and Equity in All Planning (REP SF) Coalition's first cohort, focusing on "Planning to the People: Land Use and Equity," where she advocated for fair housing practices.
